Emotions Occurred while reading Between Our Legs

“Between our legs, we hold the difference”.

I thought to myself what is going on? Between whose legs? And what does that mean? Does it mean the different types of sexes? Gender issues? At this moment I felt very confused.

“And we liked to pretend that we were not beginners”.

Who is this we the story is talking about? Of what activity are they pretending that they are not beginners?
There is a lack of information and a lot of suspense, increasing the reader’s curiosity and attention.

“Our lips were smudged in deep purple. They looked fat and swollen like hammered out thumbs”.

My first impression was that the someone was beaten up, for people associate the colour purple with bruises. Not to mention that it looks like the lip is swollen.

“Then we frenched. Our lipstick stayed on.”

Our lipstick stayed on, implies that there are two girls kissing. It was unusual and different.

“ The day Glow’s mom threw him out was the day she found him in the bathroom, Glow pressed between his shiny black-slacked legs and the wall”.

I’m shocked, her mother catches the action of sex and I want to know what is going to happen to her. Is she going to get hit, or scolded or what is in store for her.

“The breeze swirled its way round our bare legs, up through our mini- dresses and around our necks.”

I felt like I could really relate to this experience, especially in the summer when coming out of a swimming pool, and a breeze of wind wraps its hands around me, causing me to shiver with goose bumps.

“They didn’t do a thing. We did it all ourselves”.

Even in the end, I’m still a bit confused, did or didn’t they rape them? Was this act of choice or not?
